Finding Peace in the Cycle of Life: Lessons from Genesis and Investment
In the Book of Beginnings, Genesis, we learn about the divine cycle of seven days – a structure that God Himself instituted. He created everything within six days and rested on the seventh. This principle of rest, encapsulated in the concept of Shabbat, serves as a powerful reminder: the Shabbat was made for man, not man made for Shabbat.
As we look at our lives, we see that most aspects – from work to ministry to investments – revolve around cycles of seven days. This rhythmic pattern is not just a matter of clockwork; it embodies a spiritual principle that can guide us in various areas of our lives.
Take investment, for example. Whether in stocks, cryptocurrencies, or real estate, we can evaluate our investments over six days, reaching new conclusions just before we enter Shabbat. It is during this time of rest that we can assess the fruits of our labor, allowing for a moment of reflection on the highs and lows of our financial journeys.
In the investment world, just as in life, we often experience fluctuations – like a heartbeat, our financial well-being can feel like it’s 'bleeding' when stock prices drop. This metaphorical 'bleeding' can reflect the pain we feel when our investments decline. However, it's essential to remember that every struggle has a purpose, much like the sacrifice of Christ, whose blood flowed to redeem us.
When we put our time, energy, and resources into investments, we are investing our very lives. Yet, when we witness a downturn, it can feel disheartening. This is where faith becomes crucial. The Bible teaches us that those who love the Lord have great peace and will not be easily offended or shaken by life's unpredictabilities.
As we journey through the highs and lows, it's vital to remember where we place our heart. The words of Jesus remind us that where our treasure lies, there also lies our heart. The wisdom of Proverbs warns against investing our emotions in fleeting riches, which can vanish in an instant. Instead, we should anchor our souls in God's word and remain steadfast, regardless of whether we are on a winning streak or experiencing loss.
The prophet Isaiah inspires us to keep our focus on the Lord, promising great peace to those who trust in Him. In Isaiah 26:3-4, we read that those who trust in God are established on the rock, a firm foundation that withstands the storms of life. Unlike building on sand, which represents the instability of emotions and feelings, building on the rock ensures our peace and stability will endure.
So, as we navigate through the cycles of life, from investments to personal struggles, let's remember to hold fast to our faith. Thank God for both the victories and the losses, and set your heart on eternal purposes rather than the temporary fluctuations of life. In doing so, we can find that great peace, knowing we are established on the foundation that truly lasts.
